The ACT Government has issued a tender looking to secure a contractor to carry out the territory’s kangaroo cull for the next five years.
Under the plan, the ACT Government wishes to secure a contractor for a three year period, with two 12 month options to extend.
Historically, the cull has occurred yearly between 1 March and 31 July in public lands & Canberra’s Nature Park. This has been to ease the impact to farmers and to other native fauna and flora that kangaroos have.
Last year’s cull saw 4035 kangaroos culled, which was just shy of the target of 4079 kangaroos.
The tender specifically states that shooters can expect to experience protestor activity and disruption at cull sites, along with media scrutiny.
Interested shooters should note that they will be working at night, with the use of silencers to minimise the impact on other fauna. The goal is to kill 100% of kangaroos instantly, with a minimum requirement of 97% per shift. So only professional contractors need apply.
The tender closes on the 18th of Feb.
