Whether you’re new to shooting or you’re a veteran in the field, you’ll find many shooting ranges in the Sydney area. There are many choices out there waiting to be your favourite, including a few that support an extended assortment of firearms.

People twelve years of age or older can fire guns at a shooting range in New South Wales. Here are a few choices worth exploring while in Sydney, including what types of ranges you can use.

Southern Highlands Rifle Club

Your first option for a quality shooting range in Sydney is the Southern Highlands club in the southwestern end of Sydney. The range offers a comprehensive array of shooting lanes, including ones from up to 800m away. The outdoor environment provides a great way for you to fire rifles, plus it helps you practice how well you’ll handle your shots based on elevation, length, and wind condition. You can learn about how to handle different shots while at the rifle club, especially if you need help figuring out how to manage various moves.

You can shoot an 8mm centrefire rifle or a traditional air rifle while out here. The venue also features a digital display that highlights your shooting results on each lane at the range.

Auburn Shooting Academy

The Auburn Shooting Academy is an indoor range with three ranges. You’ll find various 25m pistol firing ranges with unique targets. These include both moving and stationary targets. The electronic tracking system will review how well you shoot at the targets. The range also hosts “Glockoffs” where people can fire Glock pistols at 25m targets to see who is the most accurate.

You don’t need a licence to try your luck at shooting at the Auburn Shooting Academy. The range offers special days throughout the year where unlicensed participants can learn how to shoot. But you can also apply for your licence while at the range if you’re interested in doing so.

St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre

The western suburb of St Marys is home to this indoor shooting range. The indoor range features separate lanes for pistol and rifle shooting. Bench and standing shooting is available, plus you can use scopes on many of the rifles to help you get your best aim. The electronic targeting system also ensures you can get an accurate read on how well you’re completing your shots and how you can improve.

You can also peruse the extensive assortment of rifles while at the shooting range. The range features a complete collection of rifles, with many of them available for sale. The climate-controlled environment here ensures the rifles will stay intact and functional for use.

Hornsby Rifle Range

Those looking for long-range shooting will find the Hornsby Rifle Range to be one of the most exciting places to visit. The rifle range is an outdoor venue with a 100m to 300m field and benchrest positions. There’s also an open field that offers four separate targets, with the furthest being about 800m away.

The F-Class shooting scene at the Hornsby range is very popular. The F-Class range features rifle calibers up to 8.89mm and has shooting targets more than 500 metres away. This shooting style is one of the most unique ones you can experience while at the range.

Condell Park Indoor Firearms Range

Another indoor range, the Condell Park range focuses on single-fire pistols. You can try your luck at shooting various short and long-barrel pistols while at the range. The venue features two lanes for firing, plus it includes electronically-controlled targets that can move from 10m to 25m. You can request these targets to be positioned at any point to help you with your long or short-range firing skills.

The Condell Park range supports many of the world’s most popular firearms. You can shoot a 9mm pistol, a .44 Magnum revolver, or a Desert Eagle pistol.

Sydney International Shooting Centre

The Sydney International Shooting Centre is one of the most comprehensive ranges in the city. It was built to host shooting events during the 2000 Summer Olympics.

The Sydney shooting centre features a covered outdoor range with standing and sitting rifle shooting activities available. The venue’s digital displays provide an accurate real-time readout on how well you are shooting your rifle. There’s also a wide-open field for long-range shooting.

There’s also an indoor range that offers 10m and 25m pistol firing. You can bring your own firearm to the range if you have a licence. You can also give shooting a try with one of the on-site pistols if you don’t have a pistol of your own.

Silverdale Rifle Range

Your last choice for a shooting range in Sydney is a little further out in the western suburb of Silverdale. The SSAA-affiliated range features four ranges that offer different spaces for firing various firearms. The place offers rimfire and air pistol shooting, plus you can fire shotguns here. There are also some places where you can shoot sniper rifles and other single-fire guns.

Benchrest shooting is one of the most popular activities to find at this range. The Silverdale range hosted the 2013 World Benchrest Championships.

The range is mostly outdoors and features various activities for traditional shooters and hunters. It even offers courses on various aspects of hunting throughout the year.
